Clear and Brilliant Laser

The Clear and Brilliant laser uses fractional light based technology to improve skin texture, skin elasticity, and minimize pore appearance. For best results, a series of 6 treatments is recommended. Clear and Brilliant has little downtown and patients can expect on average 1-2 days of redness and 1-4 days of a “sandpaper” feeling or dryness of the skin.

Before the treatment:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure for at least 7 days prior to treatment. Use your sunscreen 7 days prior to your scheduled Clear and Brilliant treatment.

  • Avoid skincare with actives, such as retinol, alpha and beta hydroxy acids (glycolic, salicylic acid) 7 days prior to the treatment.

  • Inform your doctor if you have or have had cold sores or herpes simplex outbreaks in the past. The treatment can temporarily flare the virus and your provider will supply a medication to prevent any outbreaks.

What to expect after the treatment:

Clear and Brilliant® Laser Treatment produces side effects. The intensity and duration of your side effects depends on the treatment aggressiveness and your individual healing characteristics. Generally, patients who are treated on higher intensity settings, will experience more intense and longer lasting side effects. However, some patients who receive a treatment on gentle settings, may still experience side effects that are greater-than- expected. Be sure to let Dr.  Weissmann know if the severity of your side effects was problematic for you.

Immediately after the treatment, you will experience redness and occasionally swelling. Most redness resolves during the first week after treatment, but some patients may experience redness for up to 1 week.

  • You will notice most of the swelling on the first morning after treatment, particularly under the eyes. Swelling usually lasts one to two days. To minimize swelling do the following:

    • Apply cold compresses to the treatment area for 10 minutes of every hour on the day of treatment, until you go to bed.

    • Sleep elevated the first night. Use as many pillows as you can tolerate.

  • You may also notice that your skin appears bronzed or little dark dots will appear on the treated area. Your skin may feel dry, peel, or flake. You may notice a “sandpaper” texture a few days after treatment. This is the treated tissue working its way out of your body as new fresh skin is regenerated. They will slough off on their own usually within 7 days after treatment.

  • Some patients experience itching.

  • Your skin may feel dry, peel or flake. You may notice a sandpaper texture a few days after treatment. This is normal and will flake off within a week.

  • Dark spots on the skin are a normal part of the healing process. They will slough off on their own usually within 7 days after treatment.

  • If you develop areas of raw skin after treatment, keep them moist with ointments such as vaseline or Bacitracin®. Keep the skin moist and DO NOT PICK at it. The skin will heal its own.

  • The laser may temporarily leave a grid-like pattern on your skin, which is completely normal and will resolve on its own.

  • Sometimes small papules can arise post treatment.

Please remember that the intensity and duration of your side effects depends on the treatment aggressiveness and your individual healing characteristics, but usually can last up to a week after treatment.
