DERMAL FILLER INSTRUCTIONS

Before the Procedure

  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications (ex. Advil, Excedrin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aspirin) for 3 days prior to procedure.

  • Avoid dental procedures 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after dermal filler injection.

  • Avoid supplements containing any of the following ingredients: Bilberry, Cayenne, Dong Quai, Echinacea, Feverfew, Fish Oil, Garlic, Ginger, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, Hawthorne, Kava Kava, Licorice Root, Ma Huang (ephedra), Red Clover, St. John’s Wort, Valerian Root, Vitamin E for 5 days prior to injection. These ingredients increase possibility of bleeding/bruising.

  • You may want to consult your prescribing physician to avoid some prescription medications, if possible, for 5 days prior to your injection. If you can not discontinue these medications, the injections can still be performed, but with a higher chance of bruising.

  • If you smoke cigarettes, please be aware the chance of bruising is increased and healing time lengthens. If possible, avoid smoking for one week prior to the procedure.

  • Avoid alcohol consumption for 2 days prior to procedure to minimize the risk of bruising.

  • To reduce bruise longevity, consider taking ARNICA MONTANA 30C: Dissolve 3 pellets under tongue 3 times a day starting 4 days prior to appointment. You may continue until the bruising and swelling has subsided (usually 7-14 days). Do not brush your teeth, eat, or drink anything but water 15 minutes before or 15 minutes after taking Arnica Montana. Avoid touching the pellets with your fingers by using the bottle cap to place the pellets under your tongue. It is important to place pellets under the tongue and let dissolve naturally.

    After the Procedure

  • Some bruising, swelling, tenderness and pain is normal after dermal filler injections. There may even be some “lumpiness” at the injection sites. This usually resolves within 1 - 3 weeks.

  • Avoid any type of facial massage for 72 hours after procedure.

  • Avoid placing face in massage cradle or any pressure on the injected areas for two weeks.

  • Avoid vigorous exercise which increases your heart rate for 24 hours after procedure (light stretching, walking, yoga, etc... is fine).

  • Try to sleep on your back, if possible for the two nights following your procedure.

  • Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications for 12-24 hours.

  • Wash face gently following procedure and apply make-up normally.

  • If you suddenly experience new facial pain or skin discoloration (pink, purple, or pale patches) on your face or in your mouth (under your tongue or on your gums), please contact me immediately.
